What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is nothing more than a titanium screw that is placed into the jawbone. It acts as an anchor for a false tooth or a set of false teeth.

The best way to describe a dental implant is to compare it to a natural tooth. A natural tooth consists of two parts. The crown is the portion of the tooth that you see coming out of the gum. The root is the portion of the tooth that goes under the gum and anchors into the jawbone. Essentially, an implant is a new root. This titanium root is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of the lost natural tooth. A restoration is then fitted onto the implant to replace the crown portion.

Dental implants offer a better solution to the problem of missing teeth!
